Who We Are
After 15 years as lead pastors of Mountain West Church of God in Tucker GA, we announced to our church in June of 2021 that we (the Shreve family) would be heading back to the mission field. We knew God had called us and He opened an incredible door of opportunity for us to become the international directors in an organization called Word for the World Christian Fellowship, an international missions and church planting organization overseeing 95+ churches in 9 countries.
I am sure you can imagine that this was a huge step for our family. We relocated to the Philippines in 2022, along with our two youngest children Brandon and Zuri. While the four of us moved our lives across the globe, we also left behind our 3 adult children to follow God’s plan for their own lives as well.
While a difficult decision, we knew it was the right one. When it comes to church planting, we had the best blueprint of what a healthy church should be. We loved our lead church, Mountain West, and we believe the world needed more churches like it – hope-filled, diverse, life-giving churches that are passionate about reaching one more person for God. What Elaine and I were able to accomplish in Tucker, GA in our 15 years as lead pastors, is what we want to commit the next 15+ years of our life to in Southeast Asia – not just one church, but hundreds like Mountain West.
About THE organization - Word for the world
The Ask
Word for the World is a 40-year-old ministry based in the Philippines. The founder, a spiritual father to me, was nearing retirement and asked us to pray about being his successor as the international director as he transitions to an Emeritus role. While the decision to leave our church was incredibly difficult for us because we love what God was doing at Mountain West so much, we knew in our hearts this was the next step God had for us.
The Urgency
There is an urgency in this role: Watching what is going on in our world, we don’t know how long the window will be open to plant churches in this part of the world. We want to pour as much as we can into Southeast Asia while we can, as roughly two-thirds of the world’s population lives here. If we can get local men and women trained and sent, we believe they will be able to make a major impact in their countries even after the window to foreigners closes.
The Goal
Word for the World has planted several hundred churches over the past 40 years. Currently there are 95 churches in the Philippines and 8 other countries that are part of Word for the World, bringing hope and ministering to over 30,000 people. The responsibility in my role as director is to lead this multinational mission organization, as they recapture the vision and mission God has given to them; planting hope-filled churches. Our mission is that Word for the World will continue to be a church planting force in SE Asia.
how we accomplish the goal
Training and Support
We have created the Church Planting Institute (CPI) to train and support men and women from all over Southeast Asia to plant churches in major cities in their countries. This organization trains new pastors, helps them plant their churches, supports them in the beginning of their journey and helps them become self-supporting, then ultimately leads them to plant another church themselves in their community within 5 years. God is already opening doors in Hong Kong, Vietnam, Cambodia, Northern India, and Nepal to bring pastors to the Church Planting Institute, train them, invest in their families, and help them launch successful churches in every area in Southeast Asia; from bustling metropolises like New Delhi, to small remote villages in the mountains of Nepal.
